Plastic coil binding, plastic comb binding, wire binding and thermal binding are all common forms of bindings used today for small to medium size binding projects. The most commonly used binding process is plastic coil (purchase plastic coil.). All the processes have one thing in common; they bind multiple pages and covers together creating one booklet for ultimate distribution and or publication.
In plastic coil binding, a machine punches holes along one edge of the cover and pages, generally four or five holes per inch. The machine then lines up the holes and a plastic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic filament is spiraled through these the holes. What results is a beautifully bound booklet.
The PVC plastic filaments come in a variety of colors and, as a result, the plastic coil not only holds the booklet together it also enhances the appearance of the final product. The PVC used is also very flexible and as a result binding ranging in diameter from less than inch to two inches can easily be made; however this process is not effective if a binding greater than two inches is needed. The PVC plastic filament used in Plastic Coil binding is also very strong, as a result the booklet created by this process are generally very durable.
In addition to being durable, booklets made with plastic coil binding process can open flat and are very flexible. This allows the booklets to be easy to read and worked with, as well as easy to lay flat on a copy machine when copies of pages are needed.
The plastic coil binding machines are generally hand operated and can bind from ninety to approximately two hundred and fifty pages effectively. Electric plastic coil binding machines are also available.
The PVC filament used in the plastic coil binding process is not only strong, it is also light. When this is combined with its flexibility and strength, it results in booklets that mail and ship very well, and ship very cost effectively. This is an important consideration when mailing or shipping a large quantity of booklets.
